Fervent plea for assistance

A 19-year-old boy L.D.Kavindu Laxan of Swarnagama, Beragama in Agalawattta has been incapacitated due to a serious neurological disorder for the last eleven years. He had taken ill when he was a Grade 3 student. He is at present under treatment of Neurosurgeon Dr. Sunil Perera

His mother said he was in Grade three in school when he was taken ill owing to a neurological disorder affecting his brain functions.

His mother Nilani Pathiraja said her husband had deserted the family and the divorce action filed by her has been pending and his is under arrest warrant for evading court. His whereabouts is not traceable.

She said the family of two children including the sick child have been in a predicament for want of permanent employment for her.The sick child receives the disabled allowance of Rs. 10,000 but it is not sufficient to provide him treatment including consulting fees and purchase of medicines for which she has to spend about Rs.26,000 a month and added to it is the cost of transport to take him to the doctor.

Nilani says that quite often she and her two children do not have a square meal for days unless she was able to earn a pittance by working as a manual worker. She requests donors and social workers to help her to at least manage the medical expenses of the sick child until his condition improves.

Philanthropists are kindly requested to credit their donations to Bank of Ceylon, Agalawatta Branch A/c No. 343953. For further details Nilani could be contacted over 0771714725.
