Embassy of Nepal in Sri Lanka Celebrates World Meditation Day with Swajagaran Programme

The Embassy of Nepal in Sri Lanka successfully organised the Swajagaran (Self-Awakening Meditation) Programme themed “Awakening Inner Stillness” to commemorate the United Nations-declared World Meditation Day on December 21, 2025. The event, organised at the Colombo Municipal Council, was attended by distinguished guests, including members of the Maha Sangha, ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, government officials, and members of both the Nepali and Sri Lankan communities.

The official programme began with opening remarks by the Ambassador of Nepal, who highlighted the relevance of meditation in addressing modern challenges such as stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion. Drawing on a shared Buddhist heritage, the Ambassador emphasised the Four Noble Truths, mindfulness, compassion, and the growing importance of well-being diplomacy in strengthening Nepal-Sri Lanka relations.

Ven. Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thera, the Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Temple, delivered remarks highlighting the spiritual and ethical significance of meditation in fostering inner peace and harmonious societies.

The main session of the programme included the Swajagaran meditation practice, led by Mr. Prateek Sharma, a Jeevan Vigyan instructor. This guided session focused on self-awareness, energy meditation, and inner balance. It reflected the trinity approach of Jeevan Vigyan, which combines yogasana, pranayama, and meditation.

After the practice session, Mr. Prateek Sharma provided an in-depth explanation of the philosophy and global vision of Jeevan Vigyan and The Awakening Project. He emphasised Nepal’s Himalayan contributions to science-based spirituality, conscious leadership, and peacebuilding. Following him, Dr. Gamage, the Chief Ayurvedic Doctor of the Colombo Municipal Council, discussed the physical, mental, and emotional health benefits of meditation.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Mr. Vijay Kumar Raut, Deputy Chief of Mission, who thanked the Maha Sangha, ambassadors, Jeevan Vigyan, Colombo Municipal Council, volunteers, participants, and the Embassy team for their support and cooperation.

The event concluded, leaving participants with a renewed sense of calm, mindfulness, and commitment to inner peace and global harmony. The programme was attended by approximately 60 guests.
