Sri Lanka Educator Service Lecturers’ Union has proposed that education reforms should be implemented once every eight years and that it should be undertaken by a Presidential Task Force comprising Deans of Faculties of universities, representatives of National Institutes of Education, Administrators in the Education Sector, Principals of schools, and representatives of civil society organizations.
Secretary of the Union S. M. P. Bandara in his letter addressed to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has pointed out that his trade union has cooperated on formulating of educational reforms from the very inception of talks on it and pointed out the shortcomings. .
“In view of the escalating protests, the task before the government is to study the proposed reforms for Grade 6, and formulate a scientific scheme to be implemented from 2027. Although the education system in the country should be restructured at intervals of eight years, it has not been a reality owing to the interference of officials who arbitrarily ignore the views of the scholars and educationists,” he stated in his letter to the President.
