A depression is developing over the Bay of Bengal which is expected to bring in rains more than 100mm in the coming days, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
Rains exceeding 100 mm is expected in Western, Southern, North Western and Sabaragamuwa and in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
“A low-pressure area has formed over the South Andaman Sea area. It is likely to move West-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over South-east Bay of Bengal around 24th November 2025, the official forecast of the Department said yesterday.
“Winds were expected to be North-easterly or Variable in direction and speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai and Mannar.” the forecast further said.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankesanthurai and Mannar were expected to be moderate at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight.
