The accused had entered the victim’s house and stabbed her to death

An accused who stood indicted with murder was found guilty and sentenced to death by Balapitiya High Court Judge Ranga Disanayaka.
A resident of Gammedda in Maha Induruwa in Kosgoda police area Ranasinghe Arachchilage Duhan Suranga (36) had on January 01. 2013 stabbed to death a young woman of the same village Gonara Gamage Sureka Dilhani (24) a mother of three children.
Police giving evidence for the prosecution told court that the accused had entered the victim’s house by force in the dead of night when she was fast asleep with her children and stabbed her to death. A previous animosity between the two parties had led to the murder. The accused had been 27 years of age at the time of the incident.
During the trial it transpired that the deceased had ten stab injuries on her body. Police stated that her husband was a driver employed in Galle and that he had been away from home on the night of the incident.
Sergeant 59725 Priyantha of the Kosgoda police gave evidence for the prosecution.
