The Court of Appeal yesterday further extended its interim order preventing the arrest of a former member of the Army Intelligence Service without obtaining the advice of the Attorney General, in connection with a CID investigation on Easter Sunday attacks.

This order will remain effective until January 29 next year.

The two-judge bench of the Court of Appeal, comprising Justice (President) Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice K. Priyantha Fernando, made this order pursuant to a writ petition filed by Colonel K. S. Maddumage. The petitioner seeks an order preventing his arrest by the CID in relation to facts reported before a Magistrate’s Court following a CID investigation.

President’s Counsel Ali Sabry appeared for the petitioner. Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath appeared for the Attorney General.
