Attorney General is to be impeached following his refusal to go ahead with the court case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, an Opposition MP alleged in Parliament yesterday.

Opposition MP Sujeewa Senasinghe who was speaking during an adjournment debate in the House said Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe is to be done away with because of his stand on the case against Wickremesinghe.

Comments on the impeachment of Attorney General came up in Parliament for the second time yesterday. It came up for the first time in the House on Tuesday when MP Ajith P. Perera inquired whether there was a move to impeach the Attorney General.   Meanwhile, MP Senasinghe said the government has been engaged in an exercise of reversing the decisions it has already made. “The government initiated a move to raid rice mills and stopped it after mill owner Dudely Sirisena became its close associate. The decision to bring up the issue pertaining to the illegal detention centre in Batalanda was reversed last year. Also the decision to change the Suwa Seriya Ambulance Service Logo,” he recalled.
