The Nuwara Eliya Economic Centre has transported 73,000 kilograms of vegetables to Colombo yesterday (09) following a large order, the centre’s manager confirmed. A similar quantity was also dispatched on Monday (08).
The consignment included vegetables such as cabbage at Rs. 150 per kg, carrots Rs. 190, leeks Rs. 190, radish Rs. 160, beetroot Rs. 230, cut beetroot Rs. 280, potatoes Rs. 260, red potatoes Rs. 280, and knol-khol Rs. 280.
The manager stated that the Economic Centre purchases vegetables directly from farmers based on orders from wholesale buyers. He also noted that current market demand for vegetables remains low, despite these large consignments.
