Today the growing importance of protecting our nature is evolving and the importance of nature and why we should save our planet has now raised eyebrows in this modern technological metal era. COVID-19 pandemic has further taught every one of us the importance of nature and more the importance of trees. We as good citizens of this planet and our motherland have a duty to help protect what is around us, THE NATURE.
The love and care for nature which is now embedded in our college culture led us to this initiative of #LETSGOGREEN.
#LETSGOGREEN is an initiative of the College to encourage all young and old Benedictines in SL and around the Globe to plant 3,000 trees to mark the “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY”. We do not wish to merely make this is a project to mark the “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY” but drive this harder and stronger and rally everyone around us to be a part of this journey to help save the planet. This will be our little contribution to a bigger problem at hand.
This concept will be one of many initiatives the college will be leading in the future establishing the Lasallian values, culture and the Christian education showing the world the Benedictine spirit.
Therefore, let me welcome all of you to be a part of this beautiful journey. Together we can make this world a beautiful place.
The writer is the Director and Principal of St.Benedict’s College in Colombo
