The Udayshanth & Angelika Fernando Foundation announces First Fundraiser

The Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation is pleased to announce its first fundraiser for 2025. The artworks featured in the fundraiser belong to the Udayshanth Fernando Private Collection.

The UAF Foundation was established to create opportunities for artists, while supporting key causes close to the family’s heart. Originally established in 2020 as the Udayshanth Fernando Foundation, its mission was deeply influenced and reshaped by the life and memory of Angelika Fernando, whose compassion and dedication to charitable work remains a guiding force. In 2022, the UAF Foundation was renamed to honour her legacy.

Today, the Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation remains committed to using art as a catalyst for positive change. Alongside artistic support through initiatives like the Artists for Artists (A4A) Production Fund and residency opportunities the Foundation extends its work into supporting skills development both locally and regionally. In addition to this the Foundation is also committed to supporting education, sustainable development and community outreach such as support for the Indira Cancer Trust in 2024.

Through public programming under KALĀ, as well as regional partnerships, the UAF Foundation seeks to create inclusive platforms that nurture creativity, amplify underrepresented voices, and build a more connected and resilient arts ecosystem in Sri Lanka.

Rooted in mentorship of the next generation, and driven by a belief in the transformative power of art, the UAF Foundation strives to quietly continue its work—supporting artists, fostering collaboration, and making space for creativity to flourish across communities and borders.

The fundraiser will be run via online auction, and includes works from the private collection of Udayshanth Fernando including works by Lionel Wendt, Richard Gabriel, Muhanned Cader, Sameera Kalupahana, Rubert Soysa, Sanjaya Senevirathne, Asma Menon, Anomaa Rajakaruna, Anup Vega, Chamila Gamage, Pala Pothupitiye, Sujeewa Kumari, Sanjeewa Kumara and Vinith Chathuranga. All proceeds will support the Udayshanth & Angelika Fernando Foundation’s ongoing educational and development efforts, including the A4A Production Grant, South Asian artist residency exchange programmes and the Indira Cancer Trust, reflecting the UAF Foundation's commitment to cultural empowerment and social responsibility. The UAF Foundation seeks to strengthen these efforts by raising funds that deepen connections between artists, institutions, and the public. Together, these initiatives contribute to building a more inclusive, resilient, and globally connected contemporary art ecosystem in Sri Lanka.

The works which will be included in the auction will be exhibited at the UAF Foundation, 3rd floor 138 Galle Road Colombo 3 on 29 May 2025 from 6 PM. The online auction goes live on 29 May ending at 5pm on 1 June 2025.
