The official launch of MasterChef Sri Lanka, the island’s first-ever edition of the internationally acclaimed cooking competition was held on the 26th of June at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo. Having captivated audiences in over 70 territories, MasterChef now arrives in Sri Lanka as the 71st international adaptation of the globally recognised franchise. With the first season set to premiere in September on ITN, the show is gearing up to offer 22 contestants; 11 women and 11 men, a life changing opportunity to showcase their love and skill for cooking. Contestants will be battling it out over the course of 25 episodes for a grand prize of of Rs. 3 million, a luxury vehicle, and the title of Sri Lanka’s first-ever MasterChef.
At the heart of the show is a powerhouse judging panel led by renowned chef and international TV personality Peter Kuruvita. Joining him are MasterChef Australia alumna Savindri “Sav” Perera, fine dining maestro Rohan Fernandopulle, and respected culinary craftsman Kapila Jayasinghe. Each judge brings a unique set of skills and perspectives to the competition, offering contestants mentorship grounded in both local and international expertise. Kuruvita described the show as more than a competition, stating that “MasterChef Sri Lanka is about showcasing the finest Sri Lankan flavours, techniques and our rich culinary heritage to the world.” Savindri Perera, reflecting on her own journey, said that returning home to mentor the next great chef was deeply meaningful and more than just a title.
The show is produced by Reality TV Productions in collaboration with Nilendra Deshapriya Productions, who secured the official rights from Banijay Rights, the global distributor of the MasterChef format. Rashmi Bajpai, EVP Sales Asia at Banijay Rights, expressed pride in bringing the franchise to Sri Lanka, praising the country’s vibrant food culture and its potential to resonate with global audiences.

Director and producer Nilendra Deshapriya noted that the show was created in full compliance with international MasterChef standards, while also embracing local stories, traditions, and flavours. He emphasised that this isn’t just a show for professional chefs, rather an opportunity for home cooks from all walks of life to honour their heritage and transform their passion into a future. Ajith Gamlath, Project President and Co-founder of Reality TV Productions, highlighted that the arrival of MasterChef signals a new era for reality television in Sri Lanka.
