Italian Embassy Maestro Domenico Nordio

Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka conducted by Dr. Martha Placeres

Italian Embassy in Colombo had the honour of hosting Maestro Domenico Nordio, at the Lionel Wendt Art Centre recently. Maestro Nordio, globally‑renowned violinist, violist, and orchestra director, joined forces with the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka and Dr. Martha Placères to guide the audience on a journey through Italy’s Baroque, bringing to life the timeless works of Antonio Vivaldi and Giovanni Vitali.

The concert not only deepened the long-standing cultural ties between Italy and Sri Lanka, but also showcased extraordinary artistry, blending together a few elements representative of Italy’s soul: history, people and small-scale excellence. With more than 300 independent workshops scattered across its territory, Italy is home to some of the best handcrafted violins in the world.
