Highlighting sustainability and innovation

Day Four of Mastercard Colombo Fashion Week provided a fitting finale to four days of back to back fashion. The final evenings show  was a thrilling blend of sustainability, sensuality, and creative innovation. Each designer brought diverse expressions of fashion to life, each offering a fresh perspective on how fashion can reflect personal identity, cultural heritage, and environmental responsibility. The evening was a vibrant celebration of the powerful connections between fashion, art, and human emotion.

Kicking off Day Four of Mastercard Colombo Fashion Week, Sonali Dharmawardena's collection focussed on the growing awareness of sustainability within the fashion industry. Sonali's passion for circularity and eco-consciousness was evident as she invited her clientele to join her in a meaningful collaboration towards a greener future. The models strutted in dresses and sarees that had been cherished and restyled from her earliest collections, some dating back 15 years, a powerful reflection of the enduring bond between her creations and her loyal customers. This tribute to sustainability not only showcased her love for the craft but also highlighted a movement toward mindful fashion .
Divya Jayawickrama’s collection, The Beautiful Death saw her creative use of Sri Lankan handloom techniques, particularly the intricate Dumbara weaving, alongside natural yarns and zero-waste draping. It was a celebration of both nature and sustainability. Divya’s collection  blended artistic draping with tie-dye techniques, creating silhouettes that evoked the delicacy of metamorphosis. This collection not only highlighted her commitment to eco-friendly practices but also illustrated the limitless beauty of indigenous craftsmanship, making a statement that was both visually striking and deeply rooted in Sri Lanka's cultural heritage.
Asanka de Mel’s LOVI SS25 collection took the audience on an emotional journey of love, passion, and wild energy. With vibrant paintings by Ajantha setting the backdrop, the collection embodied the  force of sensuality and spontaneity. The bold, elegant handmade garments in LOVI WILD allowed the wearer to experience the rush of falling in love. Asanka's exploration of modern Sri Lankan identity was infused with sensual energy, making each piece feel like a personal declaration of freedom and self-expression.
Hailing from India, Rimzim Dadu’s Stucco collection was a  fusion of historical grandeur and modern design innovation. Drawing inspiration from Baroque architecture, Dadu’s designs reinterpreted classical opulence with her signature avant-garde approach. The collection beautifully bridged the gap between tradition and modernity, with experimental textiles and progressive techniques transforming historical motifs into wearable art. Stucco was not only a visual feast but also a nod to Rimzim’s 18 years of experimentation and design evolution. Each piece captured the magnificence of the past, reimagined for a contemporary audience, making the collection a powerful celebration of artistic reinvention.
Indian fashion legend JJ Valaya’s presentation was nothing short of a masterclass in couture. Valaya is  one of India’s most iconic designers and a pioneer of the country’s fashion revolution. Known for his impeccable Haute Couture collections, Valaya’s pieces radiated opulence, with intricate detailing and luxurious fabrics.
