8 steps to Good Feng Shui

A time tested yet simple approach to organize a space to enhance the positive energy is by adapting Feng Shui.  Ensuring that you have not deviated from the basic tenets of Feng Shui is quite critical as the art and science of Feng Shui is to balance the flow of energy – Chi which is not visible but can be felt by the occupants.

In simpler terms, Feng Shui can be adapted in specific sectors of our home to experience its benefits and positive effects.  From the path way to your home to your décor inside your home each aspect of your living environment and life can be made more harmonious and prosperous too.

Keeping the home especially the front bright, nice and fresh smelling ensures that this type of energy permeates into the house and the life of the occupants as the positive forces enter into a building through the main door. Keeping this area free of obstacles, clutter and trash is of great significance in ensuring good Feng Shui. Dead plants, creepers, thorns are not ideal for the front of the building or close to the main door, hence keeping such plants out of bounds to this sector would be useful.

Some of the basic housekeeping checks can usher in good Feng Shui without much changes or efforts:-

De-clutter the home to enhance harmony and to let in new things into your life. A tidy home brings in positive flow and creates a calm and relaxing mood.

Give away broken artifacts or anything which is reminding you of unpleasant moments in your life.

Segregate the energies of the living area and bedroom by not placing things which relate to your work, business or even equipments which radiate high magnetic fields in the bedrooms.

Ensure that the furniture is not placed to restrict the movement of the occupants as it symbolizes restricting energy flow in the home.

Hang mirrors in narrow passages or in a narrow foyer after the main door on one of the side walls to increase the space, however do not have mirrors facing the main door.

Water is an essential part of our life, hence placing clean water features in a living space will enhance the feel of harmony and tranquility. Compass direction like North or East are the most general directions acceptable although such water placements need to be handled with care and a proper assessment of the Feng Shui of the home, done.

Plants represent wood element and growth, hence placing flowers and plants promote good Feng Shui. Placing a bowl of fruits especially oranges and lemons in the living or dining area is said to usher in good luck.

Avoid sharp corners in the design of your furniture and interiors and ensure that the bed is not facing a sharp corner as this could disturb the calmness and sleep pattern of the occupant.

The simple eight step process can transform you home into a harmonious nest and will give you a basic insight of what authentic Feng Shui can do in your life when implemented professionally.
