Protesters at the Galle Face main agitation site yesterday said they will not leave the ‘Gotagogama’ over any notice and challenged the law enforcement authorities to try and send them away if possible.

Activist cum journalist Shantha Wijesooriya representing the Galle Face aragalaya said that they didn’t come to the mass protest site about four months ago with the permission of the police or the government.and that they will not leave the premises just because the police come and give notices.

He said the aragalaya had been successful so far in sending an Executive President home, a Prime Minister, a Finance Minister and all the Rajapaksa MPS.

“We are here to do a system change and not to shuffle political leaders. Last President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who had a huge mandate had to leave his seat due to his failure as a leader. If that so who is Ranil Wickremesinghe who came into the executive Presidency with no people’s mandate but just with a single bonus seat in the Parliament,” he questioned.

“The police announced us to vacate this place by 5.00 p.m. today. But we will not pay heed to their notices. Our lawyers have already filed writ petitions at the Supreme Court and they are working on that. If there’s a court ruling then we will consider. The joint Galle Face protesters will decide when and where to leave and until then we will not leave. And we tell the law enforcement authorities to try and send us away if possible,” he further said.(KURULU KOOJANA KARIYAKARAWANA)

But you must understand you are forcibly occupying some one land and depriving us of even having a stroll or inconveniencing us with traffic congestion and road closures plus making our city look like an Indian slum area from hotels, offices etc frequented by tourists plus investors who take away a negative picture about our country

    Pradeep R Saturday, 06 August 2022 09:02 AM

Are you serious mate. Do you think tourists and investors decide based on what they see in the Galle Face. And you are worried about traffic congestion when millions of Sri Lankans suffer without food and basic needs because of the mismanagement. I am not blaming you personally, as this is the mentally of many of Sri Lankans today. They don't support the people who are fighting for them, because they are not effected by the issues as much as others. But when the issue come to them there won't be anyone to support them.

The present politicians are in the helm as a result of peoples struggle. Now the present rulers must go for the system change which is also one of the Clause demanded by them from the beginning .It is not only heads change without people's consent

Uf this trend continus, anybody can forcibly occupy public places which would be a bad precedent and violation of rule-of-law in this country.

    faizal Saturday, 06 August 2022 11:26 AM

people who want system change should first respect the law of this country and abide by it. These guys want others to change but not themselves

    Bandu Saturday, 06 August 2022 12:23 PM

Chris: Earlier the ways things went, there would have been no country left to do things you suggest, not only Galle Face.

    Ashamed Saturday, 06 August 2022 12:47 PM

Keep it up without giving in to Ranil and Rajapakshas. We very well that Ranil is functioning under the control of Rajapakshas. Ranil will do any harm to the country to safeguard Rajapakshas.

In a way you are right! The Aragalaya has managed to bring some change in the government. But the fact is that we all should join hands in this critical time. The foreign countries are watching closely what’s happening and we need their help. Why don’t we all give the all party government a chance and hope to relieve the suffering of the people? Singam Enough is enough!

    Ma Saturday, 06 August 2022 01:40 PM

No one can defy the law of the country. It is pathetic that even some of the lawyers, including the section that is controlling BASL is supporting such behavior by a very small section of the society that represents extremist elements. It was the average people who started aragalaya but now it has been hijacked by hardcore parties to grab power.

    Nm Saturday, 06 August 2022 01:44 PM

Do not support them. People like Fonseka is going to regret their support to create a Frankenestin monster.

    Tom Saturday, 06 August 2022 01:49 PM

The remaining lot are not the peaceful demonstrators who were responsible for the changes. Without the mass support handful of hardcore thugs cannot function. Remaining lot have other political agendas.

    Jo Saturday, 06 August 2022 01:53 PM

Harsha de Silva was very clear yesterday. If we go on like this, we will never survive. Get together and survive or divide and die.

Funny Aragala Saturday, 06 August 2022 01:57 PM

omg just either beat their teeths in or issue firing order!!

    umas Sunday, 07 August 2022 06:37 PM
