The two twin male baby elephants born at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage were given their first bath at the zoo today (6).
Marking a remarkable day in the Sri Lankan elephant saga, the twin baby elephants were born at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage on August 31, 2021, the first birth of twins since the inception of this orphanage.
The mother elephant, Surangi, is a captive elephant who was born in 1997 and has been under the care of Elephant Orphanage Pinnawala since December 3, 1997.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of National Zoological Gardens Department Director General Shermila Rajapaksha.
Speaking at the event, she said that the twin baby elephants are now in good health and are about four months old.
The naming of these twins is scheduled to take place next Tuesday, (11) at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
