A sharp increase in COVID-19 cases was being reported daily at present exceeding the hospital capacity, Public Health Inspectors Union President Upul Rohana said.
He said the wards in many hospitals that were earlier allocated to COVID-19 patients had been given to other patients recently and therefore, the hospital capacity was being exceeded now
"The number of COVID cases in the country has increased significantly at present. Although accurate data has not been released to the media, nearly, 2,000 COVID patients are being reported daily, Therefore, the hospitals capacity is exceeding. Most of the treatment centres are running out of space. Many of the existing treatment centres have been handed over by now. The space in treatment centres is completely overflowing.,” he said.
