UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has witten to Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, that the Parliamentary debate on the IMF report should begin with Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa submitting his proposals which he intends to discuss with the global body.
Sources withhin the UNP told Daily Mirror that Wickremesinghe had written to the Speaker and also Gunawardena, seeking a two day debate on the IMF report and this should begin with Basil's detailed proposals.
Basil had, at the All Party Conference mentioned that he would prepare Sri Lanka's own proposals and submit to the IMF for discussions.
The Daily Mirror learns that the Tamil National Alliance has also sought a two day debate in Parliament on the IMF report.
The debate is scheduled to be held in Parliament in the first week of April. No confirmed dates however have been set yet. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
