Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is making an effort to bring in political reforms and secure assistance from the international community by the end of June, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said today.
Mr. Wijewardene who was speaking to party activists said the objective of the 21st Amendment is to bring in much needed political reforms.
“The 21st Amendment to the constitution will strengthen Parliament. It has been proposed to set up 15 committees. Those who are protesting will also be included in these committees. These will be in the form of select committees. The protesters and the youth of the nation will be able to play a role in state administration through this process,” Mr. Wijewardene said.
“Some argue that an important factor is to resolve the economic crisis. However they do not know that both economic and political crises are the same. The Prime Minister is making an effort to bring in political reforms and secure foreign assistance to revive the economy. He is making an effort to secure assistance from IMF and other donor agencies by the end of June so that the people’s suffering will be eased,” he added.
“Prime Minister Wickremesinghe actually accepted a ball of fire and his effort is to douse it,” he also said.(Yohan Perera)

Any political and Economic reforms should based first on reduction of arm forces from four lakhs to one lakh. This is a big burden for this small Island sendin on retirment from the age of 50 is good solution.
