The Korean language has been officially adopted as a foreign language for the Advanced Level (A/L) curricula from this year, and by 2023, students can choose to sit for a Korean language examination as part of the university entrance examinations, Korean Ambassador Santhush Woonjin JEONG said.

He said this after a recent visit to Kandy and meeting with the Central Province Governor, Lalith U. Gamage, at the Governor’s office.

The Ambassador mentioned that many Sri Lankans were keen on learning the Korean language, and therefore, he intended to promote the Korean language education in Sri Lanka.

"I am ready to explore the potential in the Korea-Sri Lanka partnership, especially cultural exchanges, tourism, Korean language education and employment cooperation," he said.

Recently, the Korean government has decided to resume the entry of new foreign workers to Korea, including Sri Lankan workers, the Ambassador said.

During the discussion, Ambassador JEONG emphasized that the Central Province is rich in abundant history and beautiful landscapes. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
