About 16 Ayurvedic medicines have so far been approved and given recommendations to be used as medicines to boost immunity against COVID-19, Ayurvedic Commissioner Dr. Dhammika Abeygunawardana said.
He said initially, two medicines including 'Suwa Dharani’ were approved by the Ayurvedic Department.
“Subsequently, 100 Ayurvedic recipes were directed to us and at last, it was decided to approve 14 such medicines which are effective for boosting immunity against COVID virus,” he said.
“These all are natural medicines and no one would suffer from side effects and anyone can use them without any fear or doubt,” he pointed out.
He said these medicines could be obtained from the regional Ayurvedic officers.
The Commissioner also urged the general public to refrain from experimenting ayurvedic recipes circulating on social media and other platforms which claim to be useful to combat the deadly disease. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

These medicines help as long as other precautions are taken. But these medicines are not accepted widely as effective in preventing infections or reducing the impact after an infection. So use with caution.

Thank you for this recognition of the medical systems of our own country. Hope the rest of the government and the police are made to understand this too and they will stop harassing people who are keeping healthy by resorting to these natural remedies that have been around, tried and tested, for thousands of years. Our people are so quick to question hela vedhakama or an ayurvedic medicine, but they never question or hesitate to swallow what the chemically-manufactured western drugs do to them.

Whilst we have to admit that Ayurvedic medicine has contributed substantially before western medicine which is now in vogue disparaging comments will only kill the industry which needs support in establishing a Research Centre

Sri Lanka is blessed with all the herbs and spices. We should learn to use all these to our advantage and not follow the rest of the world blindly. Good to recognize Ayurvedic medicine.
