Afghan government claims strikes on alleged ISIS targets inside Pakistan

AA - Afghanistan's government on Friday claimed it had carried out strikes against alleged ISIS-linked targets in Pakistan's border regions.

The Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement posted on US social media company X that a series of strikes targeted what it described as ISIS hideouts in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The ministry claimed the sites had been used, with the support of "hostile intelligence circles," to plan and coordinate attacks against Afghanistan and had previously served as operational bases for several deadly attacks.

There was no immediate response from Pakistan's government or military to the Afghan claims.

Relations between Kabul and Islamabad have remained strained in recent months over border security, militant activity and mutual accusations that armed groups use each other's territory to launch cross-border attacks.

"Afghanistan will no longer tolerate any threat to its security and stability," the ministry said.
