Sri Lanka finish strong to beat Pakistan 2-1

July.28 (Mirror Sports) - Chamari Athapaththu produced a captain's performance with both bat and ball as Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the third ODI on Tuesday to clinch the three-match series 2-1.

The Sri Lanka skipper claimed three wickets before blasting a 38-ball 52, while Harshitha Samarawickrama (71*) and Hasini Perera (50*) guided the hosts to 191-2 after Pakistan were dismissed for 187.

Sri Lanka's victory was set up by Chethana Vimukthi, who ripped through Pakistan's top order in a sensational second over. The seamer dismissed Sadaf Shamas, Sidra Amin and Ayesha Zafar in the space of five deliveries to leave the visitors reeling at 10-3.

Pakistan recovered through a 68-run stand between Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali, with Feroza striking 40 off 35 balls before Athapaththu broke the partnership. Muneeba added 34, while captain Fatima Sana top-scored with 41, but regular wickets prevented Pakistan from building any lasting momentum.

Athapaththu and Kavisha Dilhari finished with three wickets each alongside Vimukthi as Sri Lanka bowled Pakistan out for 187.

In reply, Sri Lanka made a brisk start despite losing Vishmi Gunaratne for 12 after an opening stand of 46. Athapaththu then took control, bringing up her 20th ODI half-century during a fluent knock that featured aggressive strokeplay.

After the captain departed for 52, Samarawickrama and Hasini ensured there were no further setbacks. The pair shared an unbeaten 106-run partnership for the third wicket to steer Sri Lanka home comfortably.

Samarawickrama anchored the chase with an unbeaten 71, while Hasini reached her fifty in the closing stages as Sri Lanka completed the chase with ease.

Samarawickrama was named Player of the Series after scoring 173 runs, including a century in the second ODI, while Athapaththu collected the Player of the Match award for her outstanding all-round display.

The two sides will now shift their focus to the T20I series, which gets underway on Friday.
