Youth attack bus carrying garment workers in fear of COVID-19

  • The youth had protested against the bus carrying garment workers being brought into their village

The Vavuniya Police have arrested five youth in connection with the attack on a bus transporting garment workers in the Muruganoor area in Vavuniya yesterday.   

 Police said that the youth who had come wearing masks had attacked the bus and also assaulted the driver and the garment factory workers on the bus.   


Earlier, the youth had protested against  the bus carrying garment workers coming into their village claiming that the employees could spread COVID-19.   


The Vavuniya police had intervened to settle the matter at that time. The arrested would be produced in the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court.
