Will provide security to MPs if required after threat assessment: Minister

Necessary action would be taken to provide security to the Members of Parliament, if required after receiving the threat assessment reports, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said.   

The minister said this during a recent Ministerial Consultative Committee on Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs held under his Chairmanship at the Parliament Complex.   

The Chair said that no final decision had been reached on this matter yet, and investigations into the threats faced by the MPs were still ongoing and the final reports being prepared.   

He also said steps would be taken to provide security to the Members of Parliament, if required after receiving the final reports.
