Wild elephant run over by train

A wild elephant had been run over at Siyambalangamuwa by the Trincomalee bound night mail from Colombo Fort in the early hours of last morning.

Wildlife officials said the jumbo crossing the railway line near Migalewa had been run over by the train at about 1.30 am yesterday. They said the jumbo was about ten years of age.

The carcass had been mangled in the accident. Migalewa Range Forest Officer is conducting investigations on the instructions of Asst Director, Wildlife Conservation in the North Western Zone Shantha Weerasinghe.
