Unemployed graduates plan for protest during President’s visit to Jaffna

By Thevatharsan Sukinthan – Jaffna

The Jaffna Magistrate Court gave the go-ahead for unemployed graduates of the Northern Province to demonstrate when President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visits Jaffna.

The President will visit Jaffna to attend the Jaffna district development committee meeting and to attend to other programmes.

But Jaffna Police named five people including Jaffna MP Archchuna Ramanathan stating that they should be prevented from protesting in any place of the Jaffna police division.
Senior Advocate Visvalingam Manivannan appeared for the Northern Province Unemployed Graduates and requested the magistrate to allow the graduates to gather in a peaceful manner and voice their rights to employment.

Following the hearing, the court allowed them to protest peacefully alongside the roads and have denied them entry into the High Security Zones.
