Showers or thunder showers were forecasted in some parts of Sri Lanka as the country is withdrawing from the Northeast monsoon, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday.
Climatologist Malith Fernando from the Department of Meteorology said showers or thunder showers will be experienced during the coming days.
“Showers or thundershowers were likely at a few places in the Southern province and in Ratnapura and Monaragala districts after 2.00 p.m, the official forecast of the department said. “Mainly fair weather was forecasted over the other areas of the island.
Tomorrow Except for showers or thundershowers that were forecasted in a few places in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara districts after 2.00 pm, mainly fair weather was expected to prevail over the other areas of the island. Misty conditions can be expected at several places in the island during the early hours of the morning.
Mr. Fernando said the country will go into inter monsoon period by the end of first week in March.
The highest rainfall of 47mm was recorded from Thanamalwila while Wellawaya has received rainfall of 32mm, Deniyaya recoded a rainfall of 29mm, Kurunegala 34mm, Ratmalana 32.1mm, Ratnapura 34.8mm , Anuradhapura 32.1mm, Vavuniya 32.5mm while Mullaithivu recorded 30.5mm as of last evening. The Hydro Catchment areas were reported to be dry.
