Notwithstanding escalating tensions in the Middle East, SriLankan Airlines said it is continuing to operate its European routes as scheduled and stands ready to facilitate passengers travelling to London and other European destinations it serves, if requests are made amid widespread flight cancellations.

A senior official told Daily Mirror that the airline would assist affected travellers, subject to seat availability, particularly those unable to connect through major Gulf hubs.

The assurance comes as three major Middle Eastern airlines — Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways temporarily suspended flights following widespread airspace closures.

On an official X post, Emirates said it had halted all flights to and from Dubai until 3.00 p.m. UAE time on Monday, March 2, offering passengers booked before or on March 5 the option to rebook within 20 days or request a full refund.

At the same time, Qatar Airways confirmed that its flights to Doha remain suspended, with passengers allowed to change travel dates within seven days or claim refunds.

Etihad Airways also announced that the affected passengers are able to rebook free of charge up to March 18 or request a full refund.

The disruptions have left thousands of passengers stranded, particularly at Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi, which serve as major transit hubs for travellers heading to Europe.

As such, Airlines have urged passengers to stay in contact with their travel agents or airline offices and monitor updates before travelling to the airport.

The airspace closures come after Israeli strikes prompted retaliatory missile attacks by Iran, forcing several countries in the region to shut their airspace temporarily.

The disruptions have affected international flights, leaving many passengers looking for alternative ways to reach London, Paris and other destinations.
