Sixteen year old suspected for murder sent to children’s home

• The young woman Liyanarachchilage Gedara Shalika Madushani (26) had been killed by the suspect cutting her neck with a paper cutter
• Her handbag, the purse and the jewellery had been recovered from the scene of the incident

A 16 year old taken into custody in connection with the murder of 26 year old young woman at Devipahala in Kuruvita was produced before the Ratnapura Magistrate Saman D.K.O. Paranaliyanage and detained in a children’s home.  

He was a resident of Thepulangodawatta in Kuruvita. The young woman Liyanarachchilage Gedara Shalika Madushani (26) had been killed by the suspect cutting her neck with a paper cutter when she was on her way back home after work on July 02.Police said the suspect had waylaid and dragged her into the jungle and killed her in his attempt to sexually abuse her.

Investigations revealed that she had grappled with the suspect to escape him.

Her handbag, the purse and the jewellery had been recovered from the scene of the incident. Kuruvita police had traced the suspect during investigations carried out with the help of sniffer dogs on June 04.Police said several individuals had attempted to obstruct the investigations when the suspect was arrested but were brought under control. OIC Crime Investigation Branch SI Udayashantha, and Sergeant 42980 Nissanka are conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Kuruwita Police Prasanna Welikala.
