A motion has been filed at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, stating that the wrongful identification and public reference to Mohammed Azam Sherifdeen in relation to the murder of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa on Wednesday has caused significant injustice to his family.
The motion, filed by a brother of Mohamed Azam Sherifdeen, was submitted to the court by Attorney Nuwan Jayawardena.
Attorney Dasun Perera, presenting evidence to the court regarding the motion, stated that the suspect arrested by the police is not Mohamed Azam Sherifdeen. He also stated that the name of the suspect announced by the police and the suspect are not one but two.
Due to this, the family members of the named suspect have faced legal and social problems and requested that an appropriate order be made in this regard.
Considering the facts presented, Chief Magistrate Ms. Tanuja Lakmali informed the lawyers to present the relevant request to the court when the suspect presents himself, as the suspect has not yet been produced before the court.
