Russia’s Deputy Energy Minister here tomorrow amidst talks on fuel purchase from Russia

Amidst ongoing talks on the procurement of fuel from Russia, Russia’s Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka tomorrow (26), Daily Mirror learns.   

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath confirmed to Daily Mirror that Russia’s Deputy Energy Minister will visit Sri Lanka on the March 26th and that Herath is to hold discussion with the Deputy Minister. 

Meanwhile, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that diplomatic discussions are in progress on purchasing fuel on government to government agreement from Russia.   

Responding to a question whether the government is importing fuel from Russia, the Minister said Russia’s Deputy Minister of Energy is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka and that the matter will be further discussed with him during the visit. The Minister said Sri Lanka has 134,000 tonnes of diesel stocks with confirmed shipments and that 124,000 tonnes of diesel has been ordered in April.   

“Diesel stocks will be sufficient until second week of May. We have petrol stocks of 151, 456 tonnes with confirmed shipments. 55,300 tonnes have been ordered in April,” he said.
