The government is investigating into the allegations of hidden wealth in Uganda, Dubai and in some other places, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.
He said this while responding to a question at the Cabinet press briefing whether the government is investigating into allegations of fraud and corruption made by the National People’s Power (NPP) during the election period including money hidden in Uganda and allegations of Batalanda.
“Do not always focus on Uganda. The government has launched investigations into wealth hidden in Dubai and some other places. We never heard Namal challenge on bringing money hidden in Dubai whereas he did so with Uganda,” he said.
The Minister said investigations have been launched into several matters apart from Batalanda and Uganda.
He said those connected to the allegations are summoned to the CID, FCID and the Bribery Commission to record statements.
He said cases are filed after completing investigations into some incidents while indictments have been filed on some other cases and dates have been fixed in certain cases.
The Minister said investigations into some incidents have been delayed as evidence has been destroyed or investigating officers have been either transferred or forced to leave the country.
He said the government will not give up even though evidence have been destroyed and added that investigating officers will gather evidence in other ways.
