Prevention of wildlife hazards on power lines leading to blackout: CEB to decide after investigation over monkey scuffle

Focuses on restoring the grid and upgrading infrastructure

An official from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), who wished to  remain anonymous, stated that a committee would be formed to investigate  whether the power outage occurred due to a monkey scuffle.

The official  mentioned that once the investigation is completed, a decision on  implementing wildlife hazard prevention strategies will be made.

The official told the Daily Mirror that the request to  improve the capacity of the infrastructure has been requested several  times by the government but no action has been taken yet.

He said that the CEB’s main focus is to restore the grid  as well as improve the infrastructure which requires a lot of  investment.

Talks about a pumped hydropower plant which is a giant battery  which can hold two water reservoirs at different elevations that can  generate power as water moves down from one to the other (discharge),  passing through a turbine.

The CEB hopes to find an investment partner  for this project.
