Power tariff hikes are temporary : Deputy Minister

Government to implement a long term plan for reducing electricity tariffs over a three year period as promised.

Amidst the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) seeking a 13.56 percent increase in electricity tariffs for the second quarter of this year, Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha Fernando said yesterday temporary fluctuations could happen whereas the government is to implement a long term plan for reducing electricity tariffs in three years’ as promised. He told reporters that power tariffs are decided according to a methodology to recover the cost of power generation and that the generation cost must be reduced to decrease power tariffs.  >>A2
