A group of young men including a garment employee who abducted a 21 year old young woman attending the nurses training course at the Hali-ela Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau Branch were arrested and the young woman was saved by Hali-ela police yesterday. The trishaw used in the abduction was also seized during the raid. The young woman was admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for medical examination.

The suspects including a 24 year old garment worker, the 35 year old trishaw driver and a 25 year old farmer from Mahiyangana area had been arrested.

Investigations revealed that the young woman’s mother had come to take her home on a motorcycle and when she was preparing to leave, the suspects rushed to the scene by trishaw and abducted her in front of the SLFEB office.

However her mother immediately informed Hali-ela police that gave chase, seized the trishaw at Bogahamaditta and arrested the suspects, and saved the young woman. Investigations revealed that the young woman had been in love with the main suspect, garment employee, and jilted him recently. Police said he had abducted her with the help of two others.

OIC Hali-ela police CI Ruwan Gunatilaka and IP Nuwan Kumara are conducting further investigations on the instructions of SP P. M. Jayaratne.
