In less than four months since the launch of the “Ratama Ekata” national operation on October 30, 2025, police have uncovered the staggering scale of Sri Lanka’s drug crisis, seizing more than 6,000 kilograms of narcotics and arresting nearly 100,000 suspects in sweeping raids carried out across the island.

Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said that the operation was launched aimed at dismantling the drug supply chain, curbing domestic demand and rehabilitating individuals affected by addiction.

According to statistics covering the period from October 30, 2025, to February 19, 2026, a total of 100,247 raids were carried out, resulting in the arrest of 99,540 suspects.

According to the police, crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” and cannabis remain the most widely circulated illegal substances. Police seized 1,416 kilograms of “Ice” and more than 3,506 kilograms of cannabis, along with approximately 6.2 million cannabis plants during the period.

Other major detections included 524 kilograms of heroin, 199 kilograms of “Kush,” and 121 kilograms of hashish. Nearly one million psychotropic pills were also taken into custody.

Meanwhile, investigations into illegally acquired assets have been initiated against 137 prime suspects as part of efforts to dismantle the financial networks sustaining the drug trade.

The spokesman said that in addition to enforcement measures, the operation has focused on rehabilitation. A total of 1,639 individuals have been referred to rehabilitation centres to support their reintegration into society.

Police further said that 1,973 suspects are currently being held under detention orders for further interrogation to uncover those operating behind regional distribution networks.
