Management of Pilawoos Bambalapitiya strongly denied the allegation stating that such an incident could not have occurred at their establishment

A video circulating on social media has sparked controversy after a man claimed he found a baby snake in a rice and curry plate served to him at the Pilawoos restaurant in Bambalapitiya.
The video shows what appears to be a small snake-like head in the meal. The individual who posted the video alleged that it was discovered while he was dining at the popular eatery last morning (12).
However, the management of Pilawoos Bambalapitiya strongly denied the allegation stating that such an incident could not have occurred at their establishment.
“It is not possible for such a thing to happen from our end,” the restaurant manager told the Daily Mirror.
He added that Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) had visited the premises shortly after the video surfaced to verify the claim.
The manager also said that several customers had contacted the restaurant claiming that the individual featured in the video was a social media influencer and suggesting that the video may have been created to gain online views.
Meanwhile, Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. K. Sriprathapan told Daily Mirror that authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter although no formal complaint has yet been lodged.
“We have launched an investigation into the incident and will obtain samples. If any hygiene issue is found, we will not hesitate to take legal action,” Dr. Sriprathapan said.
He further noted that legal action had been taken against the same restaurant a few weeks earlier over certain hygiene-related issues identified on the floor of a kitchen area that was under construction. “We have obtained fines for that as well,” he said.
He said further action would depend on the outcome of the ongoing inspection and laboratory analysis.
