The Mankulam Police said that an army soldier was killed, and nine others were injured in a collision between an Army cab and a lorry between Vasanthanagar, Mankulam and Murukandi on the Jaffna - Kandy A-9 road yesterday morning.
The Army cab was travelling from Mankulam towards Kilinochchi on the A-9 road, with a lorry following behind. Preliminary police investigations revealed that when the lorry attempted to overtake the cab, another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction blocked its path.
Consequently, the lorry driver suddenly turned towards the cab, resulting in a collision.
Two army soldiers who were riding at the rear of the cab were ejected and collided with the lorry. At the same time, the lorry driver attempted to swerve to avoid them, which led to the lorry overturning.
Nine people, including the army soldiers in the cab and the lorry driver sustained injuries and were taken to Kilinochchi General Hospital. One army soldier who collided with the lorry died at the scene, according to the Police.
The deceased was identified as a 39-year-old resident from Galgamuwa. Further investigations into the accident are being conducted by the Mankulam Police.
