A middleman who gained notoriety in a social media video for overcharging a foreign national at a Kalutara eatery for ‘Vadai’ and ‘plain tea’ was arrested by the Tourist Police yesterday.
Police have also initiated legal action against the owner of the eatery in connection with the incident.
In a separate case, law enforcement had previously arrested a street food vendor who verbally abused American YouTuber Emeka Iwueze over pricing a portion of Kottu Roti at Rs.1,900 at a street food stall in Hulftsdorp.
The suspect was later released on bail after appearing before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The individual, residing in Colombo 12, was released on a cash bail of Rs.50,000 alongside a surety bail of Rs.1 million.
