Magistrate Orders Investigation into the Deaths of Two Suspects Arrested for Kotahena Murder

• The police later claimed that the suspects were killed in self-defense during the operation

Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe yesterday directed the police to investigate and call for the necessary inquiries into the cause of death of two suspects in police custody, who were arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman in Kotahena recently.  

The incident unfolded when the two suspects arrived on a motorcycle and killed a person in kotahena. After their arrest, the suspects were taken into police custody for the recovery of hidden weapons. However, the police later claimed that the suspects were killed in self-defense during the operation.  

Counsel appearing for the aggrieved party requested the court to investigate the deaths of the suspects, citing concerns about the suspicious circumstances of their deaths.  

Considering the submissions, the Magistrate directed the police to further investigate the cause of death by calling necessary inquiries.
