A lawyer who was arrested for allegedly using crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “Ice,” in an abandoned building in Keselwatta has been remanded until February 26 after being produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect was taken into custody by officers of the Keselwatta Police, who reportedly found him inside a dark, deserted building in the Sanchiarachchi Watta area. Police said he was in possession of 130 milligrams of “Ice,” utensils allegedly used for drug consumption, and a lawyer’s identity card.
According to police, a team led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Keselwatta Police Crime Division conducted the raid based on received information and discovered the suspect allegedly consuming the narcotic substance at the location.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had taken oaths as an attorney in 1996 and was a practising lawyer at the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court and the High Court. The arrested individual is a 54-year-old resident of Saranankara Road, Kalubowila. Further investigations are ongoing.
