A female student from the University of Jaffna was rescued following a dramatic fall down a precipice at World’s End in Horton Plains, Nuwara Eliya.

The student had reportedly fallen nearly 50 feet while attempting to take a selfie from a rock at the popular tourist site. She was left clinging to a tree branch before help arrived.

An employee of the Horton Plains National Park risked his life by descending the steep slope ahead of emergency responders and assisting the student onto a nearby boulder, preventing a further fall.

A coordinated rescue operation involving the Pattipola Police, Sri Lanka Army, and the Special Task Force (STF) was subsequently launched. After nearly three hours, the student was safely brought to the top.

According to Horton Plains National Park Warden Manjula Monarathenna, the injured student was admitted to the Nuwara Eliya Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have once again urged visitors to exercise extreme caution when taking photographs in hazardous areas.
