India is no longer the same as it once was: Tilvin

Points out NPP-led government has secured more international support than any government in Sri Lanka’s history

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva said at an election meeting that India is no longer the same as it once was, and it is in light of these changes that Sri Lanka is now entering into agreements that are mutually beneficial to both nations.

Responding to criticism from certain opposition politicians, Silva dismissed claims that the government has betrayed the country by signing agreements with India. He challenged the Opposition to prove that any of the recent deals were harmful to Sri Lanka.

“India has changed and that’s why we are changing our approach too. The agreements signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit were done transparently and have been openly communicated to the public,” Silva said.

He noted that the agreements were designed to benefit both countries and pointed out that the current NPP-led government has secured more international support than any government in Sri Lanka’s history.

“Previously, they accused us of having no international backing. Now that we’re receiving support, they’re calling it a betrayal. This is pure political opportunism,” he added.
