The International Cricket Council Board yesterday said that Sri Lanka Cricket would continue to be unable to be represented at ICC Board meetings for the time being and urged authorities to hold SLC elections as soon as possible.
In a statement, the ICC said it had received an update on Sri Lanka Cricket and noted progress towards a revised Constitution.
However the international cricket body reiterated the need for elections to be held as soon as possible and agreed that Sri Lanka Cricket would continue to be unable to be represented at ICC Board meetings for the time being. On June 22, the Daily Mirror exclusively reported that ICC Chief Jay Shah in a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo had requested him to hold the SLC elections before July 31st or risk being blacklisted as before due to political interference. The reported article was however denied by the President’s Media Division who in a statement the following day called it ‘false and misleading’. The Sri Lanka Cricket new interim committee also responded denying the article maintaining there was no discussion regarding SLC elections or any threat of blacklisting.
