Husband released from remand allegedly kills wife, sets house on fire

A man strangled his wife to death and set their house on fire yesterday morning.

The deceased, 40-year-old Ratnayake Mudiyanselage Damayanthi Ekanayake, was a resident of Medagama in Parasangaswewa.

Police stated that the suspect had previously been remanded for 14 days following a complaint made by his wife over a family dispute. He was released on bail yesterday. An altercation between the couple shortly after his return resulted in the killing and the arson attack. 

A police team, led by Parasangaswewa OIC SI Rohana Wijesuriya, is conducting further investigations to arrest the absconding suspect.
