Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has warned that while the current dengue situation remains manageable, a further increase in cases could overwhelm Sri Lanka’s hospital system.
Speaking at the Beruwala Regional Coordination Committee meeting, the Minister said the healthcare sector would struggle to cope if dengue infections continue to rise, potentially disrupting patient care. He stressed that the most effective short-term measure to curb the spread of dengue is to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by keeping homes, public institutions, and surrounding areas clean.
The Minister urged the public and all institutions to take responsibility in preventing mosquito breeding, noting that the situation can still be brought under control through collective action.
