Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe has informed the Financial Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that she is unable to appear before them yesterday to record a statement regarding the alleged misappropriation of state funds during a private visit to London by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Police Spokesman ASP F.U Wootler said.

It was reported that Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe has officially informed the CID in writing about her inability to attend due to health reasons. The letter further notes that since doctors have advised her to receive continuous treatment at home, officers could visit her residence to record the relevant statement if necessary.

The CID recently informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that they would be recording a statement from Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe concerning the alleged misappropriation of over Rs. 16.6 million in state funds for a private tour to England undertaken by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
