Group of schoolchildren consuming liquor arrested

A group of schoolchildren  from a leading school in the Haldumulla area were arrested yesterday for consuming liquor during school hours. All of them were about 16 years of age.

One of them who had taken seriously ill was rushed to the Haldumulla Hospital and transferred in critical condition to the Diyathalawa Base Hospital. 

 According to sources at the hospital, he had drunk a cosmetic product followed by liquor to mask the smell of alcohol.

OIC of Haldumulla Police, CI Asoka Indunil Ratnayake, said that he would call the principal of the school and the parents of the students concerned and take further action.

Meanwhile, the residents of the area expressed concern about this incident.
