Amidst dry weather conditions in some regions, bouts of rain are expected in several parts of the country, providing relief to affected areas.  Speaking to Daily Mirror, Deputy Director of the Met Department Meryl Mendis said fairly heavy showers over 75mm are likely in parts of the Eastern and Uva provinces, along with Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Polonnaruwa, Galle, Matara, Kalutara, and Ratnapura districts.

Further, rainfall can be expected in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota districts while other areas will also experience showers or thundershowers in the afternoon or night.

Meanwhile, strong winds of 30-40 kmph are also forecast in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota districts.

However, Mendis said the prevailing dry weather will continue over the next few days in certain areas.

“It is normal to experience dry weather during this period; however, occasional rain can be expected until early March,” he added.
